In 2016, shoe designer Brian Reid approached us with the idea of creating a version of the Osiris D3.2001 for The Hundreds. As the original designer of the D3, Brian foresaw a comeback for the chunky, 90s/00s-style skate shoes—and he turned out to be right. While I had supported Osiris during the Y2K era, working with figures like Tony Mag and Persue for Transworld Stance Magazine (I was even the one who featured the G-bag with Black Thought), I never actually wore the D3. Like many skaters of that time, I didn't fully grasp the shoe's appeal or why it had become so popular.
Over the years, the D3 evolved into one of the top-selling skate shoes ever, adopted not only by skaters but also by rap-rock fans and a new wave of skate youth. Its legacy became both iconic and divisive, marking it as one of the most controversial shoes in skateboarding history. When Brian pitched the collaboration nearly two decades later, I could still feel that polarizing energy. It felt too mainstream, too loud, and a bit too offbeat for The Hundreds.
